كَتَبَا لِي من الجراح أَمانا
A blind woman has bewitched me; her two eyes
have written me a pledge of safety from wounds.

لا ولم تحْمِل اللِّحاظَ سِناناً
For she has not unsheathed languor as a sword,
no, nor wielded her sidelong glances as a spearpoint.

No, nor has she seen men, that she might choose
the beardless youths over the bearded among them.

from her eye and left the place empty.

She knew my jealousy over her, and feared
to call anyone but me her 'man.'
