لي صاحبٌ أَفْديه من صاحبٍ
حُلْوُsweet التأَنِّيdeliberation حسَنُskillful الإِحتيالdevising stratagems
حُلْوُ التأَنِّي حسَنُ الإِحتيال
I have a friend—I'd give my life for such a friend—
Sweet in deliberation, skillful in stratagems.
لوif شاءَhe wished منthrough رِقَّةِthe delicacy of أَلفاظِهhis words
لو شاءَ من رِقَّةِ أَلفاظِه
أَلَّفhe would harmonize ماwhat lies بينbetween الهُدىguidance والضَّلالْand error
أَلَّف ما بين الهُدى والضَّلالْ
If he wished, through the delicacy of his words,
He could bring guidance and error into harmony.
يكفيكَit suffices for you منهof him أَنَّهthat he رُبَّماsometimes
يكفيكَ منه أَنَّه رُبَّما
قادَhe led إِلىto المهجورِthe forsaken one طَيفَthe phantom of الخيالimagination
قادَ إِلى المهجورِ طَيفَ الخيال
It is enough to know of him that sometimes
He has led a dream-phantom to the forsaken one.
