لقد عذَّبَتْني بالغرامِ مليحةٌ

لقد عذَّبَتْني بالغرامِ مليحةٌ

وغَالِبُ ظَنِّي أَن يَكُونَ لِزَاما

وغَالِبُ ظَنِّي أَن يَكُونَ لِزَاما

A beautiful woman has indeed tormented me with love,

The lovely one has tormented me with love,

And I strongly suspect it will be inescapable.

And my firm belief is that binding will prevail.

وبرهانُ ما قد قلت أَن عذَابها

وبرهانُ ما قد قلت أَن عذَابها

كما جاءَ في القرآن كَانَ غَرَما

And the proof of what I have said is that her torment,

As stated in the Qur’an, was an abiding affliction.

Came, as stated in the Quran, out of deep passion.
