أَحسنَت الدنيا التي اسْتَرْجَعَتْ

أَحسنَت الدنيا التي اسْتَرْجَعَتْ

مِنِّي تِلك الحالةَ الفَاخِرَة

مِنِّي تِلك الحالةَ الفَاخِرَة

The world did well to take back

The world was good when it took back

From me that splendid state.

That lofty state from me,

ما شَغَلَتْ بالي بتقبِيحها

ما شَغَلَتْ بالي بتقبِيحها

بل فرَّغَتْ قَلْبي إِلى الآخرة

بل فرَّغَتْ قَلْبي إِلى الآخرة

It did not occupy my mind with disparaging it;

It did not busy my mind with vilifying it,

Rather, it freed my heart for the Hereafter.

But freed my heart for the hereafter.
