نهاني الحبيبُ عن حُبِّي له

نهاني الحبيبُ عن حُبِّي له

قلت نعم إِنِّي إِليك أَنْتهِي

قلت نعم إِنِّي إِليك أَنْتهِي

The beloved forbade me to love him.

My beloved forbid me from loving him

I said, 'Yes; you are where I stop.'

I said yes, I will stop loving you

فقال لي مِثْلِي كثيرٌ قلت من

فقال لي مِثْلِي كثيرٌ قلت من

مِثْلُك قل لي فلعلِّي أَنتهي

مِثْلُك قل لي فلعلِّي أَنتهي

Then he said to me, 'Many are like me.' I said, 'Who

He said there are many like me, I said who

is like you? Tell me; perhaps I shall desist.'

فقال ليَ البَدْرُ فقلت أَنْت هُو

فقال ليَ البَدْرُ فقلت أَنْت هُو

فقال لي الشمسُ فقلت أَنْتَ هي

فقال لي الشمسُ فقلت أَنْتَ هي

Then he said to me, 'The full moon.' I said, 'You are it.'

He said the full moon, I said that's you

Then he said to me, 'The sun.' I said, 'You are it.'

He said the sun, I said that's you
