الجنُّ قد طَرَقت بأَعيُنِها

الجنُّ قد طَرَقت بأَعيُنِها

مَنْ قَد أُصِيبَ بِعَينهِ الإِنسُ

مَنْ قَد أُصِيبَ بِعَينهِ الإِنسُ

The jinn have struck with their eyes

The jinn have knocked with their eyes,

the one whose eye has stricken humankind.

Whoever was struck by the human's eye.

لمَّا تعثَّر بالعيون هَوَى

لمَّا تعثَّر بالعيون هَوَى

فتعثَّرت في جِسْمِيَ النَّفسُ

فتعثَّرت في جِسْمِيَ النَّفسُ

When he stumbled because of those eyes, he fell;

When he stumbled into eyes, he fell,

so my soul stumbled within my body.

And so did my soul stumble in my body.

وانشق منه جَبِينُه فجرت

وانشق منه جَبِينُه فجرت

مِنْه الدِّماءُ كأَنَّه الوَرْسُ

مِنْه الدِّماءُ كأَنَّه الوَرْسُ

And his brow split open from that, so there flowed

His forehead cracked open and flowed

from it blood, as though it were wars dye.

Blood from it as if it were the warp.

قلبي وشَجَّته بِجَبْهَتهِ

قلبي وشَجَّته بِجَبْهَتهِ

هذا يرقُّ وهذه تقْسُو

هذا يرقُّ وهذه تقْسُو

My heart and the gash in his forehead—

My heart cracked it with his forehead,

the one grows tender, while the other grows hard.

This one softens and that one hardens.

فليؤمِن العُشَّاق بي فَلَقَدْ

فليؤمِن العُشَّاق بي فَلَقَدْ

كُشِفَ الغِطَاءُ وكُشِفَ اللبس

كُشِفَ الغِطَاءُ وكُشِفَ اللبس

So let lovers believe in me, for indeed

So let lovers believe in me, for indeed

the veil has been lifted and confusion dispelled.

The cover has been removed and confusion dispelled.

إِن كان لم يشَقَّ لي قمرٌ

إِن كان لم يشَقَّ لي قمرٌ

فأَنا الَّذي انْشَقَّت لَهُ الشَّمسُ

فأَنا الَّذي انْشَقَّت لَهُ الشَّمسُ

If no moon has been split for me,

If the moon did not split for me,

then I am the one for whom the sun split open.

Then I am the one for whom the sun split.
