قَالواthey said لَنَاto us عُرِّيhe was stripped فقلناso we said لهto him
قَالوا لَنَا عُرِّي فقلنا له
فيat أَيّwhat وقتtime لمnot يَكُنhe was عَارِيَاnaked
في أَيّ وقت لم يَكُن عَارِيَا
They told us, “He was stripped,” so we said to him:
They told us, undress! We said to them,
“At what time was he not naked?”
When was he ever not naked?
يَبيتhe spends the night أَراهI see him رافعاًraising قَدْرَهhis standing
يَبيت أَراه رافعاً قَدْرَه
أُقْسِمI swear لاَnot قُلْتُI said لَهto him ثَانِياa second time
أُقْسِم لاَ قُلْتُ لَه ثَانِيا
He spends the night—I see him—raising his standing;
I see him raising his pot each night -
I swear I did not say it to him a second time.
I swear it, I did not tell him again.
