ظُلماًunjustly خَصَمتَyou bested in dispute شَهيدَthe martyr الحُبِّof love عَنconcerning دَمِهِhis blood
وَذاكَand that خَدُّكَyour cheek مَصبوغاًdyed بِعَندَمِهِwith its crimson dye
Unjustly, you denied love’s martyr redress for his blood;
Unjustly you accused the martyr of love over his blood,
And there is your cheek, dyed with his blood’s crimson.
While that is your own cheek dyed with his blood.

The heart longs for Musa’s glances—oh, what a wonder!
My heart overflows with wonder at the glances of Moses,
An archer has assailed a lovesick man’s two eyes with his arrows.
As he boldly invaded my eyelids with his arrows.
نَصيبُthe share of عاشِقِهِhis lover مِنfrom حُبِّهِlove for him نَصَبٌweariness
وَحَظُّand the lot of مُغرَمِهِthe one enamored of him إِرجاءُthe deferral of مَغرَمِهِhis debt
His lover’s share of loving him is weariness;
The fate of his lover from his love is anguish,
And his enamored lover’s lot is the deferral of his debt.
And the fortune of his admirer is awaiting his admirer.
عَلَّمتُهُI taught him الفَتكَslaying فيin قَلبيmy heart بِناظِرِهِwith his gaze

I taught him to slay my heart with his gaze—
I taught him murder in my heart with his gaze,
If only he would accept union as counsel from his teacher!
If only he would accept union on the advice of his teacher.
