عِنديI have يَدٌa favor غَرّاءُradiant أَهدَتهاbestowed it السُرىnight travel
بِأَغَرَّwith a radiant man أَهدىbestowed قُربُهُhis nearness الآمالاthe hopes
Night travel bestowed on me a radiant boon,
Bringing a radiant man whose nearness bestowed hopes.
سَفَرَتunveiled لَهُto him بِكرُthe maiden الخُطوبِof adversities بِوَجهِهاwith her face
فَاِستَحسَنَso he admired الظَلماءَthe dark night فيهاupon her خالاas a beauty mark
The maiden of adversities unveiled her face to him,
So he admired the dark night as a beauty mark upon her.
جَرَّدتَyou unsheathed عَزمَكَyour resolve لَمdid not تَهَبyou fear جُنحَthe wing الدُجىof darkness
جَيشاًas an army وَلاnor زُهرَthe bright ones النُجومِof the stars نِصالاas spearheads
You unsheathed your resolve, fearing neither the wing of darkness
As an army, nor the bright stars as spearheads.
فَلَوso if أَنَّthat بَدرَthe full moon التِمِّof fullness يَحمِلُهُcarries it الدُجىthe darkness
سِرّاًin secret لَقَدsurely قُلناwe would have said طَرَقتَyou came by night خَيالاas a vision
So if darkness could carry the full moon
In secret, we would surely have said, 'You came by night as a vision.'
