سَأُلزِمُ نَفسي عَنكَ ذَنبَ غَرامي

سَأُلزِمُ نَفسي عَنكَ ذَنبَ غَرامي

فَمَن بِدَمي إِن حُمَّ فيكَ حِمامي

فَمَن بِدَمي إِن حُمَّ فيكَ حِمامي

I shall lay the blame for my passion on myself, not you.

I will blame myself for my love for you

Who, then, will answer for my blood if my death is decreed because of you?

For who else is to blame for my passion?

وَنَفسي دَعَتني لِلشَقاءِ كَما دَعَت

وَنَفسي دَعَتني لِلشَقاءِ كَما دَعَت

عِصاماً إِلى العَلياءِ نَفسُ عِصامِ

عِصاماً إِلى العَلياءِ نَفسُ عِصامِ

And my soul called me to misery, just as

And my soul has called me to misery

ʿIṣām’s soul called ʿIṣām to the heights.

As the soul of Issa called him to greatness
