I fell in love with a full moon; a faultfinder reproached me for loving him.

And he did not know that magic draws a man in.

For Harut, when he was seized, deposited his magic

in your eyes, O Musa—and they are calamities.

Neither the yearning of a caged bird, since it was parted from its nest,

nor that of one who recalled his native lands, his heart melting,

and yearned for the bān boughs, having sung

in a voice cooing to the nest—and God prevails—

is greater than my longing for him; so perhaps I

shall see Musa’s apparition in a dream, at play.
