This is the hour of my disgrace; I answer your call, O

herald of love—no perfume after ʿArūs.

And do you not see how the days have smiled

at union with Musa, after long frowning?

He is given drink, while the garden’s blossoms spring from him

in a cheek, in garments, and in cups—

diverse, made lovelier by resemblance, just as

words are admired for their wordplay.
