قَلبِيmy heart بِدَاءِfrom the sickness of الهَوَىpassion وَالحُبّand love قَدalready تَلِفَاperished
وَنَاظِريand my eye لِسُهَادِto the sleeplessness of اللَّيلِthe night قَدalready ألِفَاgrew accustomed
My heart has perished from the sickness of passion and love.
My heart is afflicted with love and passion's disease
And my eye has grown accustomed to the sleeplessness of night.
And my eyes are accustomed to the wakefulness of night
فَلاَso do not تُعَذّبtorment بِطُولِthrough the prolonging of الهَجرِestrangement قلبَthe heart of شَجٍone stricken with grief
عَذَابُthe torment of مِحنَتِهِits ordeal قَبلَbefore الصُّدُودِrejection كَفَىwas enough
So do not torment a grieving heart with prolonged estrangement;
So do not torture with long estrangement a broken heart
The anguish of its ordeal before your rejection was enough.
The torment of its affliction before the acts of aloofness sufficed
إنif كُنتَyou are تَرضَىpleased with حَبيبَbeloved of القَلبthe heart تَعذِبَتِيmy torment
فَإنَّthen indeed قَلبِيmy heart يَرَىconsiders تَعذِيبَكُمyour tormenting me شَرفَاan honor
If, beloved of my heart, you are pleased by my torment,
If you wish to torment the heart's beloved with my torment
Then my heart deems your torment of me an honor.
Then my heart sees your torment as an honor

إنif كُنتُI was أذنَبتُI sinned هَاbehold قَدalready جِئتُI have come مُعتَرِفاًconfessing
وَقَدand already عَفَاhas forgiven اللهُGod عَنfor ذاكَthat الَِّذِيwhich سَلَفَاhas passed
If I have sinned, behold, I have come confessing,
If I have sinned, here I am confessing
And God has forgiven what has gone before.
And God has already forgiven that which is past
