And one with a rosy cheek and narcissus-like eyes—
My narcissus-cheeked rose, warlocks recite
The masters of sorcery have transmitted lore from his glance.
Of the magic in your gaze and glance they write
وواواتُand wāw-shaped curls صُدغيهhis two temples حَكَينthey resembled عَقَارِباًscorpions

And the wāw-shaped curls at his temples resembled scorpions
Your dimpled cheeks tell tales of hornets that met
Of musk, coiled above pomegranate blossom.
Above pure musk and nestled over julnar's net
ووجنَتُهُand his cheek الحَمراred تَلُوحُglows كَجمرةٍlike an ember

And his red cheek glows like an ember;
Your wine-red lips part like embers that stir
Upon it, lovers’ hearts have been scorched.
The cores of lovers-moths that cluster and blur
ووِدّيand my love لَهُfor him بَاقٍenduring ولَستُand I am not بِسَامِعٍa listener
لِقَولِto the words of حَسُودٍan envier والعَواذِلِand the reproachers إنif عَوواthey howled
And my love for him endures, and I do not listen
My love for you is lasting, though I hear no more
To an envier’s words or the reproachers’, even if they howl.
The calumny of enviers at my door
وواللهand by God لاnot أسلُوهُI cease loving him لَوeven if صِرتُI became رِمَّةa decayed corpse
فَكَيفso how وأحشَائِيand my entrails عَلَىaround حُبًّهِlove for him انطَوواthey folded themselves
And by God, I will not cease loving him, even if I become a decayed corpse;
By God! Though I am now but dust, to you I'll bind
So how could I, when my entrails are wrapped around my love for him?
For my soul itself is lost in love so blind
