O handsome benefactor, whose appearance has triumphed

Over the full moons, and whose right hand triumphs over money-bags.

And you whose bounty and conduct speak

In generosity and justice, of Ka'b and of Umar.

Indeed, what they deemed ugly may portray for me

The beauty of patiently forgoing it in the ugliest of forms.

So, what a springtime for my heart, if you grant it!

For spring to come from rain is nothing new.

If only you would give me my clothes and the turban! I do not

Find anything for myself but poetry and hair.
