تَثَقَّلت عن كبِدي والحَشَا

تَثَقَّلت عن كبِدي والحَشَا

فَكابَدتِ النَّفسُ أهوالَهَا

فَكابَدتِ النَّفسُ أهوالَهَا

You were too heavy for my liver and innards,

The anguish weighed heavy upon my liver and grief

So the soul endured its terrors.

So the soul endured its horrors

ولَولا وُجُودُك فوق الثَّرى

ولَولا وُجُودُك فوق الثَّرى

لَزُلزَلَتِ الأرضُ زِلزالَهَا

لَزُلزَلَتِ الأرضُ زِلزالَهَا

And were it not for your presence above the soil,

And were it not for your existence upon the earth

The earth would have been shaken by its own quake.

The earth would have quaked with its quaking

ولَولا ثَقُلت عَلَى ظَهرِهَا

ولَولا ثَقُلت عَلَى ظَهرِهَا

لأخرجَتِ الأرضُ أثقَالَهَا

لأخرجَتِ الأرضُ أثقَالَهَا

And had you not weighed upon its back,

And were you not heavy upon its back

The earth would have brought forth its burdens.

The earth would have cast out its burdens

فَلا تَعجَبَنَّ إلَى صبرِهَا

فَلا تَعجَبَنَّ إلَى صبرِهَا

فَبِالصَّبرِ ربُّك أوحَى لَهَا

فَبِالصَّبرِ ربُّك أوحَى لَهَا

So do not marvel at its patience,

So do not wonder at its patience

For your Lord has inspired it to be patient.

For with patience your Lord revealed to it

ولَو أصبحت منك فِي خِفَّةٍ

ولَو أصبحت منك فِي خِفَّةٍ

لَبَلَّغَهَا اللهُ آمَالَهَا

لَبَلَّغَهَا اللهُ آمَالَهَا

And if it were relieved of your weight,

And if you had become lightened from it

God would surely grant it its hopes.

God would have granted it its hopes
