أَسْمَرُdark-complexioned عِيلَis exhausted الصَّبْرُpatience فيin حُبِّهloving him
أَسْمَرُ عِيلَ الصَّبْرُ في حُبِّه
ليسthere is not لهfor him فيin الحُسْنbeauty منany مُشْبِهِequal
ليس له في الحُسْن من مُشْبِهِ
A dark-complexioned one—patience is exhausted in loving him.
He has no equal in beauty.
إِنْif شِئْتَyou wish أَنْto تَعْرِفَهknow him باسْمِهby his name
إِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ تَعْرِفَه باسْمِه
أَفْرِدْهseparate it منfrom رابِعfourth حَرْفٍletter بهin it
أَفْرِدْه من رابِع حَرْفٍ به
If you wish to know him by his name,
Strip it of its fourth letter.
طُوبىblessedness لِمَنْfor whoever باتspends the night being لهُto him ليلةًone night
طُوبى لِمَنْ بات لهُ ليلةً
عكسthe reverse of أَبيهhis father لهِوىfor the desire of قلبهhis heart
عكس أَبيه لهِوى قلبه
Blessed is he who, for one night, is to him
The reverse of his father, to satisfy his heart's desire.
