أَهداه لي أَذْكى مِنَ الوَرْدِ
I say to the rose, while the fragrance of the one
I say to the rose whose petals he gave me
Who gave it to me is sweeter than the rose:
He is sweeter than the rose, more fragrant in his generosity
أَشْبَهْتَهyou resembled him فيin النَّشْرِfragrance طِيباًin sweetness فِلْمso why
أَشْبَهْتَه في النَّشْرِ طِيباً فِلْم

خالفَتُه في الحفظ للعهد
"You resemble him in sweet fragrance—so why
You resembled him in spreading your perfume
Do you differ from him in keeping faith?"
But you differed from him in keeping your promise
