ياO سالِكاًone who passes بَيْنَamong الأَسِنَّةِthe spearheads والظبُّاand the sword blades
يا سالِكاً بَيْنَ الأَسِنَّةِ والظبُّا
إِنِّيindeed I أَشُمُّI smell عَلَيْكَupon you رائِحَةَscent الدَّمِthe blood
إِنِّي أَشُمُّ عَلَيْكَ رائِحَةَ الدَّمِ
O you who pass among spearheads and sword blades,
O passerby between the fangs and the deer
Indeed, I smell the scent of blood upon you.
I scent upon you the smell of blood
ياO لَيْتَwould that شِعْريmy knowledge مَنْwho رَقاكَcharmed you بِعُودِهِwith his stick
يا لَيْتَ شِعْري مَنْ رَقاكَ بِعُودِهِ
حَتَّىuntil رَقيتَyou climbed إلىto مَكانِplace of الأَرْقَمthe speckled serpent
حَتَّى رَقيتَ إلى مَكانِ الأَرْقَم
If only I knew who charmed you with his stick,
Oh, would that I knew who tamed you with his pole
Until you climbed to the speckled serpent’s place.
Until you ascended to the place of wounds
