سأشْكُرُI shall thank لِلْحَمَّامِto the bathhouse بَدْءاًat first وَعَوْدَةًand again
أَياديfavors بِيضاًwhite; beneficent ماnot لهُنَّfor them ثَمينُa price
I shall thank the bathhouse, first and again,
I will thank the dove, at the start and return,
for white favors beyond all price.
White hands - how invaluable they are!
جَلاكَit revealed you عَلىbefore عَيْنَيَّmy eyes عُرْيانَnaked حاسراًbareheaded
فَرُحْتُso I went away بِتَطْليقٍwith divorce وَأَنْتwhile you تَمينُyou tell lies
It revealed you to my eyes, naked and bareheaded;
You revealed yourself to my eyes, downcast,
so I left, divorcing you, while you told lies.
I rejoiced at being set free, while you coveted.
وَطَهَّرَand it cleansed قَلْبيmy heart مِنْof هَواكَlove for you بِباردٍwith cold water
وسُخْنٍand hot water فَقَرَّso it cooled; found comfort الْجَفْنُthe eyelid وَهْوthough it was سَخينُhot
And it cleansed my heart of love for you with cold water
And my heart was cleansed of passion for you by the cold,
and hot; so my eyelid grew cool, though it was hot.
And heat, so eyelids contracted, yet were hot.
