تَرَفَّقْ بي ولا تَسْتَقْص أَمْري

تَرَفَّقْ بي ولا تَسْتَقْص أَمْري

فَلَمْ يَسْتَقْصِ واجِبَهُ كَريمُ

فَلَمْ يَسْتَقْصِ واجِبَهُ كَريمُ

Be gentle with me, and do not be exacting in my case.

Be gentle with me, do not inquire of my state

For no generous man has ever exacted his full due.

For the noble does not exact what is due

إِذا بَلَغَ الْكَريمُ إِلى مَداهُ

إِذا بَلَغَ الْكَريمُ إِلى مَداهُ

مُطالَبَةً فَلا يُلَمِ اللَّئيمُ

مُطالَبَةً فَلا يُلَمِ اللَّئيمُ

If the generous man goes to his utmost limit

When the noble reaches the extent of his due

in making demands, then the base man is not to be blamed.

In asking, then the base cannot be blamed
