اللهُGod بَاقٍِenduring وَكُلُّand all هَالِكٌperishing مُودِيpassing away
وَالمَوتُand death لَيسَis not عَلَىunder حَالٍany circumstance بِمَردُودِto be turned back
God endures, and all else perishes and passes away.
God is eternal while all else perishes
And death cannot, under any circumstances, be turned back.
And death cannot be reversed or eluded
فَانظُرso consider وَإنَّكَand indeed you are فِيin الدُّنيَاthis world عَلَىin خَطَرٍperil
مَاwhat يَفعَلُdoes الدَّهرُTime فِيto صُمِّsolid الجَلاَمِيدِboulders
So consider, while you are in peril in this world,
So see that in this life you walk a narrow ledge
what Time does to solid boulders.
As time ravages even mountains solid and rigid
وَقَدand already رَمَاهَاhas struck them العَنَاhardship فِيin دَارِabode غِبطَتِهِhis bliss
إذَاwhen استَفَادَhe gained بِلىًdecay مِنهَأfrom them بِتَجدِيدِthrough renewal
And hardship has struck them in the abode of his bliss,
It flung the pearls into the abode of loss
when he gains decay from them through renewal.
When it eroded them till no luster remained hid
هَذَاthis مُحَمَدٌّMuhammad المَحمُودُpraiseworthy أَجمَعُهُall of him

This Muhammad, praiseworthy in every way,
This is Muhammad, the universally praised
has left Time among us unworthy of praise.
Who left the times unlike any commended
فَأَيُّso what a حَظٍّshare مِنَof المَعرُوفِkindness مُنقَطِعٍcut off
وَأيُّand what a رُكنٍpillar مِنَof الإِسلاَمِIslam مَهدُودِdemolished
What a share of kindness has been cut off,
What share of grace is now severed?
and what a pillar of Islam has been demolished!
What pillar of Islam lies now demolished?
أودَىhe perished ابنُson of عَبَّاسٍAbbas الثَّانِيthe second وَوَارِثُهُand his heir

He has perished—the second Ibn Abbas and his heir
The second Abbasid heir and his inheritor
in worldly possessions, knowledge, and unquestioned merit.
Left worldly goods, knowledge, merits undefeated
أودَآhe perished وَلمand did not يُبقِleave شَيئاًanything كَانَhe used to يَملِكُهُown it

He has perished, leaving nothing he once possessed
He left nothing that he used to own
except houses resembling mosques.
Except homes like the likeness of mosques

He who never turned away a weak person asking for help,
He who rejects not the plea of one in need
nor was seen turning his side and neck away.
Nor is seen as the next in kindness and bounty
فَليَبكِهِso let him weep for him كُلُّeveryone مَلهُوفٍdistressed لِحَاجَتِهِbecause of his need

So let everyone distressed by his need weep for him,
Let him be mourned by all who crave his aid
and everyone kept away from doorways, driven out.
And those barred from his doors, forcibly precluded

He preceded in voluntary and obligatory acts
over our illustrious, stalwart imams.
Over our shining moons, luminous as lamps

Never have I seen the guiding lights gathered
without their handing over the keys to him.
Except that they conferred authority onto him amidst
