And a slender youth—love made his dwelling

My heart; I feared for him the heat of its flame.

A moon—for his estrangement I forsook the drowsiness of sleep,

And grew weary of my sight and its keeping me awake.

Hearts fear his languid gaze might harm him,

So it is as though they fled from his glances.

No sooner had I glimpsed the full moon's face in his form

Than I gathered pearls from his words.

This is the one: when he won our hearts,

They devoted themselves to loving him sincerely and keeping faith with him.
