And she whose sash hangs loose shows you a face
The veil's beauty shows you a heavenly face
Heavenly, though she dwells in hell.
That would be in hell
فتاةyoung السنin age صاحبهاkept her company كثيراًoften
فتاة السن صاحبها كثيراً
سراةthe nobles الناسthe people فيin الزمنthe time القديمancient
سراة الناس في الزمن القديم
Young in years, she often had for companions
The girl of yesteryear accompanied him often
The leading men of ancient times.
The elite of people in ancient times
وكمand how often جعلwas made النطاقthe girdle لهاfor her عناناًa rein
وكم جعل النطاق لها عناناً
تقادshe is led بهby it إلىto دارthe abode النعيمof bliss
تقاد به إلى دار النعيم
And how often the girdle was made a rein for her,
And how the belt gave her free rein
By which she is led to the abode of bliss.
To be led by it to the house of bliss
حياةٌlife فيin البعادseparation وفيand in التدانيnearness
حياةٌ في البعاد وفي التداني
وأنسٌand delight للمجالسfor gatherings والنديمand the boon companion
وأنسٌ للمجالس والنديم
She is life in separation and in nearness,
A life far and near
And delight for gatherings and the boon companion.
And company for the gatherings and boon companions
تجيءshe comes إليكto you مفعمةfilled to overflowing النواحيthe sides
تجيء إليك مفعمة النواحي
وترجعand she returns وهيwhile she is ذاتpossessed of حشاًa belly هضيمslender
وترجع وهي ذات حشاً هضيم
She comes to you brimming on every side,
She comes to you filled with charm
And returns with a slender belly.
And returns while still retaining her grace
وأحسنand loveliest ماthe state in which تكونshe is إذاwhen أتتناshe comes to us
وأحسن ما تكون إذا أتتنا
أناةunhurried الخطوthe step حاليةadorned الأديمthe skin
أناة الخطو حالية الأديم
And she is loveliest when she comes to us,
She's best when she comes to us
Slow of step, her skin adorned.
With slow gait and smooth skin
وقدand indeed كتبتinscribed أناملناour fingertips عليهاupon her
وقد كتبت أناملنا عليها
أساطيراًtales ملونةcolored الرقومthe markings
أساطيراً ملونة الرقوم
And our fingertips have inscribed upon her
And our fingers have written on her
Tales in colored script.
