ولقد سنحن لنا بحمص جآذرٌ
عقدتwere tied ذوائبهنtheir tresses بالأرساغto the wrists
عقدت ذوائبهن بالأرساغ
And indeed, young wild cows appeared before us in Homs,
We met in Homs charming maidens,
Their tresses were tied to their wrists.
Their braids tied with colorful bands,
ماwhat بالهمis the matter with them حجبتwere warded off عقاربscorpions أرضهمtheir land
ما بالهم حجبت عقارب أرضهم
وقتلنناand they killed us بعقاربwith the scorpions الأصداغthe temples of the head
وقتلننا بعقارب الأصداغ
How is it that the scorpions of their land were warded off,
Why did they veil their land's suns
Yet they slew us with the scorpions at their temples?
And slay us with their glances' darts?
