ويدٍand a hand بآلto the family of محمدٍMuhammad علقتclung
ويدٍ بآل محمدٍ علقت
منيof mine فلستso I am not بغيرهمwith anyone other than them أرضىI am content
مني فلست بغيرهم أرضى
And a hand has clung to Muhammad’s family—
My hand is pledged to the Family of Muhammad
my own; so I am content with none but them.
I am not pleased with any besides them
جعلmade الإلهGod عليupon me حبهمlove for them
جعل الإله علي حبهم
وعلىand upon جميعall عبادهHis servants فرضاa duty
وعلى جميع عباده فرضا
God has made love for them, for me
God has made love for them obligatory upon me
and for all His servants, obligatory.
And upon all His servants an obligation
فأثارso it stirred up ذلكthat منfrom زنادقةٍheretics
فأثار ذلك من زنادقةٍ
حسداًenvy فسمواso they called حبهمlove for them رفضاrejectionism (Rafḍ)
حسداً فسموا حبهم رفضا
So that stirred up among heretics
This aroused jealousy in some heretics
envy; so they called love for them “rejectionism.”
So they named love for them rejection
وعجبتand I marveled هلdoes …? يرجوhopes for الشفاعةintercession منone who
وعجبت هل يرجو الشفاعة من
ينويintends لآلtoward the family of محمدٍMuhammad بغضاhatred
ينوي لآل محمدٍ بغضا
And I marveled: does anyone hope for intercession
I wonder, does he hope for intercession from one
who harbors hatred for Muhammad’s family?
Who intends hatred for the Family of Muhammad
