May Damascus and a dwelling of love within her be watered
By rain for which she sways her flanks in pride.
لاmay it not زالcease للدَّوْحfor the spreading trees عطّاراًa perfumer يراوِحهاvisits her at evening

May it ever be a perfumer to the spreading trees, visiting her at evening,
And a wine-seller to the clouds, visiting her at dawn.

ياO هَلwill …? تردُّbring back ليَto me الأَيَّامُthe days واحِدةًa single one
مِنَof الهَنَاتthe little pleasures الَّتيwhich قضَّتْيُهاI spent them فيهاwithin her
O, will the days return to me a single one
Of the little pleasures I enjoyed within her,
ماemphasizing “between” بينbetween ظبْيٍa male gazelle بلَحْظِwith a glance of الطَّرْفthe eye أقنُصُهُI snare him

Between a gazelle I snare with a glance of the eye,
And a doe I capture with beguiling words?
