Who will aid a lovesick man touched by overwhelming grief,

and a heart whose fortitude has failed it because of you?

I am a captive, and I have no hope of ransom,

and ill, yet I have not been visited.

I am slain, and yet my killer

in love is subject to no retribution.

O branch that swayed upon a mound of sand,

and gazelle with a lion between his eyelids!

The languor of your eyelids is what clothed me

in a robe of sickness and fresh torment.

You have a face—exalted be He who fashioned it!

Were the full moon to see it, it would prostrate itself.
