God will not have me love a single person,

And all of them, in my eyes, are less than the least.

And I forsake people who are dear to me,

Whose breasts boil with longing for union with me.

And that is only for fear of humiliation in love,

And because I know that humiliation is worse than being killed.

I spend the night consoling my soul by giving up hope of them,

Yet, if I wished, my sandal would be made of their cheeks.
