Can it be that sorrow has no relief,
Does sorrow have no relief?
or that the night has no morning?
Does the night have no morning?

O Sa'd of success, O Sa'd of triumph,
Bravest in attaining success, bravest in prosperity
O Sa'd of spears, O Sa'd of blades!
Bravest with spears, bravest in forgiveness

Do the non-Arabs graze upon your souls,
Do foreigners shepherd your souls
while you are made to graze upon the dust of the valleys?
While you shepherd the dust of lowlands?

We are still masters of that wing

When our horses stampede with us
there is no retreat for our feet.
Our feet have no stopping

تِ يُغْنيني بشنيعِ الصِّياحْ
So what ails me, that I do not hear the mourning women
Why do I not hear the wailing women
satisfying me with hideous cries?
Sing me the horrors of their shriek?

There I swagger among the horses,
There the fates waver among the horsemen
and depart amid the breasts of spears.
And I hurl between the breasts of spears

So, O Ibn Nubata, you are no rescuer
O son of Nubata, you are not weak
unless you visit them with unalloyed evil.
If you do not plague them with terrible calamities

For war surely knows, on the day of encounter,
For you know that in the day of battle
that you are its weapon of weapons.
You are the weapon of weapons

And O you who blame me for what I have given
indeed, reproach is generosity's twin.
Blame is the habit of the forgiving
