    I scorned the oppression which, had I accepted it,

    I would have been Sahlān’s peaks, deceived by its shoulders.

    So, after glory, I am now content with a place

    where the one I do not shun shuns me.

    ومن ذا سِواكم في الأَنام أُعاتُبْه

    I reproach you, not wishing to embarrass you;

    and whom among humankind, besides you, could I reproach?

    My praise visits his honor, while I am visited

    by his poisoned barbs and his reproaches.
