The cupbearers of glory from the house of Zalim gave me drink,

With well-ropes whose ends reach among the stars.

And behold, at the upper reaches of Dhu al-Nukhayl, a small band of women,

    Driving sturdy-shouldered asses.

They lift their buttocks, with dark grime upon them,

Just as brown scorpions raise their pointed stings.

And they were a diversion for us, sweetening our drowsiness,

Whenever we grew quiet in the wide, level wastes.

If you ask about households of baseness and insignificance,

Then ask about the houses of al-Khudr, the Khudr of Muharib.

You see baseness in al-Khudri; indeed, you can discern it

At a spot between the beards and the eyebrows.

Al-Khudri and his peer have indeed ridden, in dealing with me,

Upon a mount among the jolting mounts.
