ماnot كُنتُI was أَحسَبُthinking أَنَّthat القَومَthe people قَدindeed صَدَقواthey spoke the truth
ما كُنتُ أَحسَبُ أَنَّ القَومَ قَد صَدَقوا
حَتّىuntil نَعاهاhe announced her death لِيَto me الرحليُّal-Raḥlī عَمّارُʿAmmār
حَتّى نَعاها لِيَ الرحليُّ عَمّارُ
I had not thought that the people had spoken the truth,
I did not expect the people had been truthful,
until ʿAmmār al-Raḥlī brought me news of her death.
Until 'Ammar the traveller announced her death to me.
