وَمعَتَّقٌand an aged wine حُرِمَwas denied الوَقودَthe fire كَرامَةَout of honor
وَمعَتَّقٌ حُرِمَ الوَقودَ كَرامَةَ
كَدَمِّlike the blood of الذَبيحِthe slaughtered creature تَمُجُّهُspew it forth أَوداجُهُits jugular veins
كَدَمِّ الذَبيحِ تَمُجُّهُ أَوداجُهُ
And an aged wine, spared the fire out of honor,
A freed man, firewood was forbidden to him out of respect,
Like a slaughtered creature’s blood, spewed forth by its jugular veins.
Like the blood of a slaughtered victim, his innards churn.
ضَمِنَundertook الكُرومُthe grapevines لَهُfor it أَوائِلَthe first stages of حَملِهِits gestation
ضَمِنَ الكُرومُ لَهُ أَوائِلَ حَملِهِ
وَعَلىand upon الدِنانِthe wine jars تَمامُهُits completion وَنَتاجُهُand its birth
وَعَلى الدِنانِ تَمامُهُ وَنَتاجُهُ
The grapevines undertook the first stages of its gestation;
The vineyards guaranteed him the first of their yield,
And the wine jars are charged with its completion and birth.
And on the spears his full portion and offspring.
