مَنwho لِصبٍّfor a lovesick man شَفَّهwasted him جورُcruelty النَوىseparation
مَن لِصبٍّ شَفَّه جورُ النَوى
كلَّماwhenever أَوجعَهpained him التذكارُremembrance أَنّاhe groaned
كلَّما أَوجعَه التذكارُ أَنّا
Who will aid a lovesick man wasted by separation’s cruelty?
The one who yearns is revived by the mention of the beloved,
Whenever remembrance pains him, he groans.
Though it pains him with the reminder of her.
وإذاand when هبَّتblew صَباeast wind نَجدٍNajd صَباinclined with longing
وإذا هبَّت صَبا نَجدٍ صَبا
قَلبُهhis heart شَوقاًin longing إلىtoward نَجدٍNajd وحَنّاand yearned
قَلبُه شَوقاً إلى نَجدٍ وحَنّا
And when Najd’s east wind blows, it inclines—
And when the breeze blows from Najd,
his heart—toward Najd in longing, and yearns.
His heart longs for Najd and yearns.
