لما رأَت عينيَ عينَ الَّذي
عادَreturned لِقُربيto be near me بعدafter إِبعاديmy banishment
عادَ لِقُربي بعد إِبعادي
When my eye saw the eye of the one
When my eyes saw the eyes of the one
who returned to my side after my banishment,
Who returned to be near me after distancing me
قالَتit said لِقَلبيto my heart لاdo not تَشَكَّcomplain of الصَدىthirst
قالَت لِقَلبي لا تَشَكَّ الصَدى
ماhow أَقربَnear العينthe spring (also: the eye) منto الصاديthe thirsty one
ما أَقربَ العين من الصادي
it said to my heart, "Do not complain of thirst—
It said to my heart don't doubt the sincerity
how near the spring is to the thirsty one!"
How near the eye is to the truthful one
