هجرَforsook الحبائبُthe beloved women جانبيmy side
ونزلنَand they settled مُنعرَجَthe bend of اللوىal-Liwā (winding sands)
The beloved women forsook my side,
The loved ones have deserted my side,
And settled at the bend of al-Liwā.
And descended down the winding paths of separation.
فَظللتُso I kept أَعسِفُwandering without direction فيin الهَواthe midday heat (word continues)

So I kept wandering blindly in the mid-
So I remained hurling in passion,
day heat, traversing the distance of separation.
Dragging my pining,

كرباهُmy anguish! مِنfrom حرِّthe heat of الهَواlove
And passion scorched my heart—oh,
While longing scorched my heart intensely,
my anguish from the heat of love!
Tormenting it with the heat of desire.
