حَلَّتsettled بِقَلبيin my heart وَثَوَتand stayed
حَلَّت بِقَلبي وَثَوَت
شَمسٌa sun لَهاfor her البدرthe full moon حَسَدenvied
شَمسٌ لَها البدر حَسَد
She settled in my heart and stayed—
A sun has set in my heart and camped there
a sun whom the full moon envied.
A moon, for her the full moon is envious
حَرُّthe heat هَواهاlove for her لمdid not يَزَلcease
حَرُّ هَواها لم يَزَل
يُضنيwears down الفؤادَthe heart والجَسدand the body
يُضني الفؤادَ والجَسد
The heat of love for her has never ceased
The heat of her love does not cease
to wear down the heart and body.
It makes the heart and body suffer
لاdo not تعجَبواmarvel منat حَرِّهits heat
لا تعجَبوا من حَرِّه
فالشَمسُfor the sun فيin قَلبthe heart of الأَسَدthe lion
فالشَمسُ في قَلب الأَسَد
Do not marvel at its heat,
Be not astonished at its heat
for the sun is in the Lion’s heart.
For the sun is in the heart of the lion
