أَياO بانياًbuilder عُلياthe loftiest of القُصورpalaces مؤمّلاًhoping for
أَيا بانياً عُليا القُصور مؤمّلاً
أَماناًsafety منfrom الدنياthe world ونيلَand attainment of أَمانِwishes
أَماناً من الدنيا ونيلَ أَمانِ
O builder of the loftiest palaces, hoping
O builder of lofty palaces hoping
for safety from the world and the fulfillment of wishes,
For safety from this world and gaining security
أَقلَّreduce البناbuilding فالدَهرُfor time يومٌa day وَلَيلَةٌand a night
أَقلَّ البنا فالدَهرُ يومٌ وَلَيلَةٌ
عجولانِboth swift للأَعمارlifespans ينتهبانِthey both plunder
عجولانِ للأَعمار ينتهبانِ
Build less, for time is a day and a night,
Build little, for time is but a day and a night
both swift, plundering lifespans.
Swiftly plundering lives
وَقُلand say للَّذيto the one who لاnot يَنتَهيceases عنfrom بنائِهاbuilding them
وَقُل للَّذي لا يَنتَهي عن بنائِها
مَتىwhen يأتِcomes أَمرُthe command of اللَهGod ينتهِwill cease بانِa builder
مَتى يأتِ أَمرُ اللَه ينتهِ بانِ
And tell the one who does not stop building them:
And say to him who does not cease from building
When God's command comes, a builder will cease.
When will God's command come to make him stop?
