اللَهGod ليfor me منagainst واعدٍa promiser وعدُهُhis promise
اللَه لي من واعدٍ وعدُهُ
كذبٌa lie وفيand in الإنجازِfulfillment منof يَلمَعِa mirage
كذبٌ وفي الإنجازِ من يَلمَعِ
God help me against a promiser whose promise
Is a lie, and whose fulfillment is a mirage.
يمنعُنيhe denies me العذبَsweet water ولَمّاand has not yet يَزلceased
يمنعُني العذبَ ولَمّا يَزل
يُنهلنيhe gives me drink بالآجنِwith foul water المُنقَعِstagnant
يُنهلني بالآجنِ المُنقَعِ
He denies me sweet water, yet never ceases
To give me foul, stagnant water to drink.
مالَhe sided معwith الدهرِTime علىto bring about رَوعتيmy terror
مالَ مع الدهرِ على رَوعتي
وَلَمand did not يَملside يوماًever عليهagainst it مَعيwith me
وَلَم يَمل يوماً عليه مَعي
He sided with Time to terrify me,
And never once sided with me against it.
