By God, a gazelle whose brow is like the crescent moon

Shot me with an arrow from languid eyelids.

Tears flowed in their inner corners, as though they were

The watery sheen of damask steel on keen blade-edges.

He signals with a glance, trembling in fear,

Like a gazelle frightened by a slaughterer’s snare.

And his eyes are filled with tears, like a narcissus

On which fallen dew lies without dripping.
