    O master, who

is a luminary in his learning,

how splendid is your gift, which

    none refuses without doing wrong!

For in its excellence it is like

a fire gleaming upon a mountain.

    Its verses, in their ink,

resemble the stars in the darkness.

No page has held their like—

no, nor has the pen inscribed the like.

From me, peace be upon you, as long as

the doves sing at Dhu Salam.
