رأَيتُ قَوماً من بني هاشمٍ

رأَيتُ قَوماً من بني هاشمٍ

دنَوا من العَليا وما أبعدوا

دنَوا من العَليا وما أبعدوا

I saw a group of men from Banu Hashim.

I saw a people from the sons of Hashim

They drew near to the heights and did not go far away.

Who came near to glory but not too far

قد وَصَفوا بالحمد آباءَهم

قد وَصَفوا بالحمد آباءَهم

وأَظهروا في المَجدِ ما شيَّدوا

وأَظهروا في المَجدِ ما شيَّدوا

They had indeed spoken of their fathers with praise,

They described their fathers with praise

And displayed what they had built in glory.

And made manifest the glory they built

حتّى إِذا ما سأَلوا عن أَبي

حتّى إِذا ما سأَلوا عن أَبي

قُلتُ لهم أَنَّ أَبي أَحمَدُ

قُلتُ لهم أَنَّ أَبي أَحمَدُ

Until, when they asked about my father,
