عَجباًwhat a wonder! لمنat one whom منَّbestowed favor الحَبيبُthe beloved عليهupon him
عَجباً لمن منَّ الحَبيبُ عليه
وَحَباهُand gifted him بالتَقبيلwith kisses وهوwhile he is لَديهِwith him
وَحَباهُ بالتَقبيل وهو لَديهِ
I marvel at one whom the beloved has favored,
How strange is he whom his lover grants favor
and graced with kisses while at his side:
And gifts him with kisses while by his side
كَيفَhow اشتَكىcomplained of ضعفَweakness الفؤادof the heart منfrom الجوىlove’s anguish
كَيفَ اشتَكى ضعفَ الفؤاد من الجوى
ومفرِّحُand the heart-reviving cordial الياقوتِof ruby فيon شَفتَيهِhis two lips
ومفرِّحُ الياقوتِ في شَفتَيهِ
how could he complain of a heart weakened by love’s anguish,
How can he complain of a languid heart
when ruby cordial is on his beloved’s lips?
When rubies give joy from his lips so wide
