فائق الحسان الخرَّد
He trails the hem of his cloak,
Dragging its tail, so masterful,
Surpassing the beautiful, bashful maidens.
Exquisite in its beauty.

منزَّهٌ عن نِدِّ
And he is unique in his charms,
Singular in loveliness,
Beyond having any equal.
Above all fault and blame.

سيفَ لحظِهِ أَو أَوَّد
He slays me whenever he unsheathes
Deadly to foes when provoked,
The sword of his glance, or bends
Unsheathing its glance, so fatal.

The swaying lance of that figure.
That slender form whose eyes
His eye bears witness to my slaying;
Testify to slaying me.

So ask him, if he does not deny it:
Ask them, though they deny it,
Was this done deliberately?
Was it not with intent and pledge

Love has a covenant in my heart,

In love with one whose barren tracts are dark [wording uncertain].
With love for she of dark eyes,
Love for him is my hope and aim,
Whose love was my purpose and goal.

Not questioning a camel-driver as he chants,
No harsh questions assail,
Nor weeping among the ruined camps.
Nor weeping amidst ruins.

Passion betrayed me, or I found salvation,
Whether love takes me to the lowlands or the heights.
