لِلَّهfor God (expressing wonder) منwhat a والهٍlovesick عانٍcaptive بأسرَتهِin his captivity
لِلَّه من والهٍ عانٍ بأسرَتهِ
ومنand what a محبٍّlover غداcame to يبكيهhe weeps for him محبوبُa beloved
ومن محبٍّ غدا يبكيه محبوبُ
How wondrous a lovesick captive in his bondage,
He who has a friend to aid his family,
And a lover whose beloved has come to weep for him!
And a lover who will shed tears for his beloved,
كأَنَّهas though he يُوسفٌYusuf فيin السِجنthe prison مُضطَهداًoppressed
كأَنَّه يُوسفٌ في السِجن مُضطَهداً
وكُلُّand every ذيone possessing خِلَّةfriendship فيin الحيِّthe quarter يَعقوبُYaqub
وكُلُّ ذي خِلَّة في الحيِّ يَعقوبُ
As though he were Yusuf, oppressed in prison,
As if he were Joseph in jail, persecuted,
And every friend in the quarter were Yaqub.
And all dear ones in the neighborhood are Jacob.
