She swayed as she walked and turned like a fawn.
She swayed as she walked, like a delicate gazelle
A gazelle whose pasture is within my heart.
Grazing in the meadow

God has fashioned her for us as a temptation;
God created her as a temptation
Through her He leads astray whomever He wills among humankind.
To lead astray whom He wills with her charm

My reproacher would have me forget her;
Those who blame me seek consolation in vain
And how could I seek error after the fawn?
How can I resist love after seeing her?

For God's sake, delight your eyes with her;
By God, enjoy her beauty
And defy a watcher for love of her, and behold;
And defy any who reprove your passion for her

Look upon the full moon and the morning sun
And judge between them for us as you wish.
And judge between them as you wish

كأنماas though قدhad حملتthey carried تركثباunclear; possibly a quiver
Her eyelids shot arrows into my heart,
Her glances pierced my heart
As though they bore a quiver [uncertain reading].
As if she shot me with arrows

Would that I knew who, to bring about my slaying,
Oh, who was it that she killed?
Incited her in love and goaded her on.
For in love, I am slain, and she is armed

She curled toward me the scorpions of her shells [possibly: temples],
The nails of her delicate fingers wounded me
And unfurled her hair into serpents.
And her hair she let down in waves

Her figure is like a branch above which
The cluster of that temple-lock has spread overhead.
A cluster of fruit took shape at her temple

I have not forgotten when she visited: union with her
I will not forget when she visited me and we met
Gave me life and revived my heart through meeting.
Bringing me to life, my heart refreshed with her presence

I spread my cheek for her among us—how lovely,
I offered her my cheek as a pillow
If she would accept it as a bed for herself!
If that would please her as a bed

And through her tresses and their parting I attained what
She attained by wit and charm what
Bewildered the gaze—and how it amazed!
Dazzled my eyes and amazed me

And night withdrew, and its stars were
The night passed with her as my companion
Driven away, while morning mounted a dappled steed.
Driving away the dawn like blowing clouds

O night that I spent in my lifetime,
Oh night I spent with her!
In union, despite an envier and a gloating foe!
Despite the envy and malice of foes

May my eye never be without its pupil;
Never did my eyes forget her beauty
No, nor may my heart be left desolate without her.
No, nor did my heart feel lonely with her near
