Rouse your eyelids from the languor of their drowsiness.

For the sun has drawn for us from her cup,

And the gray dove has sung upon her boughs,

And fragrant wafts have passed your way from her breaths.

Toward you turn the gardens' eyes, should they gaze,

Amid their graceful narcissus and their myrtle.

Rise, then unveil her as a virgin, and outwit my reproachers,

If you are among the cups' people and their folk.

Keep your reckoning if her flock multiplies,

And for her multiply the fifths by her sixths.

Cast some of her elixir upon your cares,

And spend on the discerning from her purses.

A virgin—the admixture touched her, and she bore

A cup you carry round among her companions.

Musky in her wafts, save that

The secret of her planting tells you of her scent,

From every woman of enchanting figure, who by her beauty

Is adorned, not by her jewels or her clothes.

The boughs sought, in ignorance, to be compared with her,

But her figure proved contrary to their comparison.

    فجناس نظمي من بديع جناسها

    A virgin—casting off the bridle is what brings her to me;

So my verse's wordplay springs from her wondrous wordplay.

So when she appears, what are the faces of night's moons?

And when she gazes, what is the glance of the figure in her covert?

    كلا ولا الغزلان من اجناسها

    By God, the moons are not her peers;

No indeed, nor are the gazelles of her kind.

Beware, should she lean and her figure sway:

Indeed, I fear for you because of her swaying.
