I fell for him, bough-like, with a lisp,

    With scorpion-curled sidelocks and temple-locks.

Through those two, in love, he has added for me,

By forsaking me, sting upon sting.

I say, 'Your love-worn sufferer—do you know of him?'

He says, 'No, by God, I do not know.'

I said, 'Sell me a glance.' He said to me,

'For your soul, if you desire it.'

I said, 'May my soul ransom you; then do with it,

O full moon, whatever you wish and whatever you desire.'

Then he swayed proudly and turned, saying,

'How enamored the lover is of the full moon!'
