O my beloved Yusuf, a light has shone for you,

and captivated the people—blessed be the All-Merciful!

وجمالك فاطر قلوب اعداك

وجمالك فاطر قلوب اعداك

جل سبحان مصورك إنسان

جل سبحان مصورك إنسان

And your beauty rends your enemies’ hearts;

exalted and glorified is He who fashioned you human!

وبزخرف صف العذار اسبيت

كل الأحزاب أتوا إليك فرقان

كل الأحزاب أتوا إليك فرقان

And with the adorned line of your cheek-down, you captivated

all the factions; they came to you in bands.

وحواميم فمك ولو اعرف

وحواميم فمك ولو اعرف

من تنشق تفق على الغاليه

من تنشق تفق على الغاليه

And the Ḥā-Mīms of your mouth—if only I knew—

surpass ghāliyah perfume when inhaled.

وجبينك في الليل أضاء قلنا

وجبينك في الليل أضاء قلنا

هذى أنوار على العيون غاشيه

هذى أنوار على العيون غاشيه

And your brow shone in the night; we said:

“These are lights enveloping the eyes.”
